We know this isn’t Truck Buzz, but if you want a really nice crew cab with a really big belt-buckle badge glued to the front doors in attempts to show off at the construction site, Home Depot parking lot, or the like, Ram has you covered. Lincoln and Cadillac previously experimented with the luxury pickup truck market without much success. Ram, on the other hand, wisely decided to reserve its top trim trucks for the Laramie range, which will see new hues unveiled at the Dallas Auto Show.
The Laramie Longhorn range is Ram’s more upscale offering, luring buyers with calloused hands and high tastes using premium leather materials, attractive southwestern design iconography, loaded options lists, and flashy exterior trim pieces. Even the interior trinkets and trim pieces are modeled with the wild west in mind thanks to inspiration from antique pocket watches, hand-tooled leather cowboy boots, or a horseman’s saddle. Currently the Laramie Longhorn is offered in Bright Silver two-tone contrast, but new for 2017 is a two-tone RV Brown color that matches the shade of brown frequently used on the exterior design of RV trailers.
Non-two-tone paint remains standard, although the two-tone RV Brown is offered with nine exterior color matches. These include Black Forest Green, Bright Silver, Bright White, Brilliant Black Crystal, Delmonico Red, Maximum Steel, Pearl White and True Blue. Staying on this truck is the large chrome badge on the tailgate while model specific badging, designating between the Laramie Longhorn 1500, 2500, and 3500, will adorn the doors. Two-tone 1500 editions get 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, which are optional on 2500 and 3500 models if customers think the stock 18-inch wheels aren’t flashy enough. In addition to the colors, Laramie Longhorn models get a host of other upgrades.
These include premium headlamps and tail lamps, unique wheels and grilles, interior Walnut Burl inserts stained in Canyon Brown or Cattle Tan, front heated and cooled seats and rear heated units, FCA’s Connect Access system and its accompanying features, and multi-view cluster screens. New for this year is a revised front-end look, Keyless Go, SmartBeam headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 for 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty Laramie, Longhorn, and Limited models. Now that the Lincoln Mark LT and Cadillac Escalade EXT are done for and a US appearance of the Mercedes X-Class remains ambiguous, this may be your best bet at a luxury truck, especially for the cowboys at heart.
